According to the University of Arkansas Department of Curriculum and Instruction, "The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers programs that prepare candidates for initial teacher licensure in Elementary Education (K-6). The B.S.E. degree in Childhood Education is not an initial teacher licensure program but instead leads to the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), which is the initial teacher licensure preparation program. Students majoring in Childhood Education must choose from among four concentrations:

  • English as a Second Language Concentration
  • Gifted and Talented Concentration
  • Reading Concentration
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Concentration"
