Create a Network from Scratch: Career Launch Academy
What is Career Launch?
Career Launch Academy is a third party partnership the UofA utilizes to help students build social capital- or relationships that can help them move forward in their desired careers.
Students completing a Career Launch cohort, or Career Launch in one of their classes, will attend 4 workshops walking them through how to have career conversations with people in their desired industry.
What do I need to do in a Career Launch cohort?
All students participating in Career Launch will need to attend the 4 workshop dates set in advance by a facilitator, obtain a copy of the Launch Your Career Workbook, and complete various assignments in Blackboard.
How can Career Launch help me?
Research shows that students who engaged in cold networking were twice as likely to earn an internship as students who only engaged in warm networking (NACE, 2020)!
This finding suggests that students who seek out networks on their own may be perceived as more agential than students who rely on pre-established relationships. The Career Launch methodology will teach you how to cold network to land the internships and full time work you are excited about!
