Research Employers
Take the time to identify workplaces that align with your goals!
- On the left side of your handshake profile, click on employers
- Using filters, you can look at industries that interest you, see what company headquarters are located in cities you want to live in, and view organization by employer size!
- Use keywords to further narrow down specific areas of interest
- Click on companies to view their Handshake pages
- Follow companies on handshake that interest you and update your Handshake notification preferences- you can get updates when your followed companies post jobs, events, and advice on Handshake this way!
- To access company search in LinkedIn, place your cursor in the blank search bar at the top of the screen and hit enter. The main search menu will provide different search categories- select "Companies".
- Using filters such as locations, industry, company size (similar to Handshake), you can begin narrowing down companies you may want to learn about
- Additional filter options: you can filter for companies with active job postings and 1st degree connections (companies where you have existing connections already)
- Follow companies that interest you to stay on their radar!
- Consider joining a Career Launch cohort- we will take the companies you follow and go in depth on how to find people to network with at those companies
- What are my non negotiables in a company I work for?
- Do i need to locate a job with a 40 hour work week?
- Do i have a certain salary requirement I need to meet?
- What values and rules will clash with me personally?
- What challenges does this company work to solve? Does it motivate or interest me?
- What growth opportunities does the company offer?
- Is the company large where you can move up from entry level into management roles?
- Is the company small where I will get lots of hands on experience in muitiple areas?
- What types of skills and degrees are these companies and positions seeking out?
