Recruiting Student Employees

Handshake is the central location for students to find campus employment.

It offers a single, convenient place for students to find on-campus jobs — including positions from Workday, Work Study programs, and affiliated campus employers.

If you're faculty or staff on the Fayetteville campus, we encourage you to promote your job openings by posting the position. Use the information below to learn how to recruit students.

Your recruitment method will depend on (1) how you collect applications and (2) your unit’s HR requirements.

Use the flowchart below to choose the approach that best fits your needs. No matter which method you use, your job will appear in Handshake.

The key differences between the methods are:

  • Where applications are collected
  • When candidates use Workday during the hiring process
  • Target audience

Note for graduate-level positions: Jobs posted in Workday have the option to be visible to both internal and external candidates. Jobs posted in Handshake are visible only to UARK students. For graduate-level positions, consider using Workday to increase visibility beyond campus.

All student employment opportunities should be highlighted in Handshake, UARK’s central hub for on-campus job postings. Handshake helps create a 1-stop platform where students can easily discover jobs on campus.

All enrolled students have access to Handshake. To find on-campus jobs, they can filter by “on-campus” within the platform.

Federal Work Study:

Work Study is a financial aid program that helps students earn money through part-time jobs, often on campus. At UARK, departments can hire students with Federal Work Study to support their operations at a reduced cost, since the program covers a portion of the student's wages. This allows managers to extend their team's capacity while providing meaningful work experiences for students.
