PROFILE

How did you get started in the Career Services profession?

I have been working in higher education since obtaining my BA in Psychology in 2001 from Freed-Hardeman University. Since then I have taught English for a University in ShiYan City, China, recruited and welcomed new students to Alaska Pacific University and to my alma mater, FHU, and advised students in the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange here at a the University of Arkansas. I earned my Masters degree in Higher Education so that I could keep growing and learning about the work that I love. I am new to the Career Development Center, starting my position as a Career Counselor January 2011 and am really excited to use my experiences in this new capacity. I enjoy helping students to see the big picture, develop a plan, and be successful.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

Hiking and finding waterfalls in NW Arkansas, spending time with my church family and working with children and other groups through my church, reading, and traveling.

What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?

I was born and raised in Alaska and even though I have had the opportunity to travel to some really neat places, Alaska is my favorite. The people are diverse and friendly and everywhere you look –the view is spectacular!

What do you like best about living in NWArkansas?

I love the hiking and outdoor activities that are so readily available in this area. Fayetteville is a great community and there is a lot going on here. I became a Razorback fan as soon as I moved here and love being on the UA campus. And of course, the weather and beautiful colors in the Fall can’t be beat!
