Research Poster Presentation Component
This component will be arranged by college and presented in the Arkansas Union, with two faculty members and one graduate student from each college serving as the judges for graduate students in their college, for a total of 12 judges. Students will register for the event, names will be advertised for public viewing in the schedule of presentations, students will present their research project for 15 minutes with 10 minutes of prepared presentation and 5 minutes of question and answer time, and then be evaluated. Each evaluation will be shared with the student to act as a learning component. The two best presentations from each college will be chosen for the networking event, for a total of 12 winners. Student winners will be advertised.
Professional Preparation Component
This component will serve two purposes—to congratulate ‘winners’ and to prepare all presenters for networking with employers during the career fair. Winners of the poster competition will be given a portfolio, business cards, $100 each, a plaque, and a special nametag to wear during the Career Fair April 2nd. All presenters will learn how to create a 30 Second commercial introduction, and make an appointment to have their resume or CV reviewed. Participants will be given guidelines for appropriate attire for the networking event and other tips for coming across as professionally as possible.
Networking Component
This event will be held concurrently with the All Majors Career Fair called Nick of Time on April 2, 2008. Twelve U of A students will present their posters to employers, have resumes, abstracts and executive summaries of their research, business cards, and name badges with ‘Presenter’ ribbons on them. Students will be in professional attire prepared to network with employers. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. Only students with posters will be allowed to present to employers, but other students may come to the event.
