The Women's Giving Circle awarded the UA Career Center $13,500 to fund the center's new program initiative, This Is How We Do It: Women Empowering Women. The goal of the program is to increase the number of females in top level positions and to educate female college students on women's issues in the workplace.
The UA Career Center is hosting the first networking event, Women Empowering Women: This Is How We Do It, October 29, 5:30pm-7:30pm, in the Arkansas Union Ballroom. The keynote speaker is Esther Silver-Parker, Senior Vice-President of Diversity Relations at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. The event will also host a panel discussion to give participants an overview of women's workplace issues, strategies for overcoming many of these issues, suggestions on how to balance work and family, and how to advance ones career. Panelists will include women who represent various disciplines who are at the top of their fields.
Hord d'oeuvres, drinks, giveaways and door prizes will be provided. Additional seminars are being planned for the Spring semester.
