PROFILE

How did you get started in the Career Services profession?

My Master's degree program had an interviewing day as part of our application process in which we interviewed with several departments for a graduate assistantship. I really connected with the Career Services department, and ultimately was offered that assistantship. From there, I was able to learn all about the world of career advising, and to fuel my passion for working with students.

Describe a “typical work day” in the Career Center.

I have found that a typical work day will involve a combination of student appointment and project time. With student appointments, I get to enjoy a diverse set of topics: resumes, interviewing, graduate school, co-ops/internships, job searching, networking, and a lot more. Combine an assortment of those topics with 1-2 projects that I am working on (often related to co-ops or resource development), and my days are predictably unpredictable.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I enjoy spending time with my friends, cooking, and watching TV. I'm not much of a baker, but I really enjoy cooking foods that require both time and effort.

What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?

While completing my undergraduate degree here at UA, I was able to study abroad for a semester in Ferrara, Italy. Ferrara is a small city 40 minutes north of Bologna. I was able to live with an Italian family (and eat lots of good food!), and I was able to significantly advance my Italian language skills. It is easily one of my favorite places in the world.

What do you like best about living in NWArkansas?

The people. And the trees. I have met so many wonderful people in NWA, and most of my best friends live in this area. I find that people here have an exceptional talent at work-life balance, and that is something that I highly value.
