How did you get started in the Career Services profession?

Currently, my role is to connect employers with arts and science students.
Previously, I worked as a career counselor for the U of A for 6 years.

I am an alumna of U of A, completing my Bachelors in Psychology in 1997 and Masters in Sociology in 1999. Prior to returning to the U of A, I worked in Baltimore, Maryland in human service.

Describe a “typical work day” in the Career Center.

There are no typical days in Employer Relations. Some of my regular tasks are:

  • Reach out to employers who currently have a presence on our campus to ensure satisfaction
  • Reach out to employers who are not currently recruiting from our campus to educate them on the talents of UA students
  • Work with faculty to collaborate with employers in their industry
  • Encourage Fulbright College students to attend career events and assist with preparing them to network with employers

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

When I'm not connecting with employers, I'm busy with my second job- as a mom. My elementary aged children keep me busy running to sports practice and games, dance recitals, and all kinds of other fun activities. I enjoy spending my quiet time reading and being outside.

What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?

I love traveling and have gotten the opportunity to visit lots of interesting cities inside and outside of the US. The place that had the most impact on me was Kathmandu, Nepal.

What do you like best about living in NWArkansas?

NW Arkansas is idyllic in a lot of ways. Since Fayetteville is a college town, there are many opportunities to learn about different cultures, ideas, and people. It is a close-knit community, which makes it a wonderful place to raise a family. It is a creative place, which keeps it beautiful and interesting. And it is an environmentally friendly place, making it easy to incorporate nature into our everyday lives.
