PDI Global Awareness Specialization

Want to add a little more flair to your resume before you start to pound the pavement? The UA Career Development Center is proud to offer a new specialization offered with the Professional Development Institute (PDI) in a Global Awareness Specialization. By participating, you demonstrate your interest in other cultures and languages and get help reflecting on how this global awareness can impact the workplace. The Global Awareness Specialization gives you the opportunity to learn about other cultures and languages in addition to sharing your own talents and skills with those from other countries. We want to do everything we can to encourage you to expand their experiences and think with a global perspective.

Global Awareness Specialization Requirements:

Language Awareness (choose one of the following options):

  • Conversation club leader (8 weeks; once a week for an hour)
  • SILC (Spring International Language Center) – Conversation partners (9 weeks; a few hours a week)
  • Foreign language courses (completion of at least one course)
  • Attend 3 language table sessions plus view 3 foreign films
  • Other? (Approve with your career coach)

Cultural/Social Awareness (choose one of the following options):

  • Study Abroad Experience
  • BARNGA workshop (students experience culture shock)
  • Attend an ICT (International Culture Team) presentation
  • Attend a relevant Human Resources sponsored workshop (ex. Japanese immersion)
  • Participate in the ISO (International Students Organization) or other Student Cultural Organizations.
  • Attend a cultural banquet, program (i.e. Diwali Banquet, Chinese Student Organization banquet, African Student Organization banquet, International Student Organization banquet)
  • Living Library ("Check out" a person who has lived in another country)
  • Other? (Approve with your career coach)

Global Workplace Issues (choose one of the following options):

  • "In Their Shoes" workshop – (explores immigration issues)
  • Living Library ("Check out" a person who has worked in another country and discuss workplace issues in that country)
  • "Workplace etiquette in other cultures" workshop
  • Have a work experience abroad
  • CDC workshop: "Working Abroad"
  • Other? (Approve with your career coach)
